The recent discovery of toxic "forever chemicals" in private water wells in Medford and Bellport neighborhoods has prompted a crucial step towards ensuring residents' access to clean drinking water. Up to 20 homes in these areas will be connected to public water systems, funded by a state grant and COVID-19 relief funds, totaling $2.1 million. This project addresses the financial burden of connecting to public water, which would have otherwise cost property owners tens of thousands of dollars.
