This Diamond Jubilee celebration, hosted and directed by Anirudh Chawla, was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, blending candid conversations, musical performances, and behind-the-scenes stories that showcased Hema's evolution from a young debutante to one of Indian cinema's most beloved icons.
A Walk Down Memory Lane
The evening commenced on an emotional note as Hema Malini herself reflected on her journey, emphasizing the significance of the venue, Shanmukhanada Hall, where her career began. She shared, "This is where my journey as an actress started. I stayed here during the shoot of 'Sapno Ka Saudagar' and traveled daily to Raj Kapoor's studio in Chembur. Later, I received my first Filmfare Award here. Over the years, I've performed on this stage numerous times. Life has come full circle, and here I am again, celebrating this incredible journey."
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Union Cabinet Minister Kiren Rijiju and Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
Dharmendra's Affectionate Recollections
One of the most heartwarming segments featured Hema Malini's affectionate memories of her husband, Dharmendra. She recounted the story behind the song 'Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana' from the film 'Pratigya', revealing how the legendary Kathak maestro Gopi Krishna was initially hired for the choreography. Hema humorously shared, "I wondered if Dharmendra would perform Kathak! But after hearing the song, I understood why they chose Gopi Krishna. Dharmendra, after seeing the choreography, said, 'What is this?' and then decided to choreograph and perform the song himself, leaving the audience in fits of laughter."
